The Huddle She Built: Honoring Alyshia

They say some people have a light so bright it guides others home. For us, Playing for Alyshia

Honestly, it’s hard to put into words what it’s like without Alyshia here. But if you knew her, you knew she wasn’t one for sitting around in the quiet. She was the one who got everyone out of the house, the one who made sure we were all actually together.

That’s why this touch football league feels so right. It started as a way to handle the loss, but it’s turned into something more—it’s turned into “our thing.”

When we’re out on the field, it’s not just about the game. It’s about:

• The Laughter: The kind of loud, messy fun she would have loved.
• The Check-ins: Using the game as an excuse to see how everyone is really doing.
• The Spark: Keeping that fire she had alive in all of us.

Alyshia had this way of making you feel like you belonged, and that’s exactly what happens in the huddle. We’re moving, we’re competing, and we’re keeping her memory right in the middle of everything we do.

We’re playing for the love of the game, but more importantly, we’re playing for the love of Alyshia.

A huge shoutout to the masterminds, Jessica and Jeremy, for dreaming this up. While some of us (no names mentioned! 😂) might be taking the scoreboard a little seriously, the truth is, the “win” happened the moment we all got together.

In this family, we’ll do anything just to be in the same room. These games aren’t about the gold medals; they’re about the gold standard of friendship we share as cousins. We’re building a bond today that will be our safety net during the difficult times.
